1/ I want to follow up on this👆🏻as I'm not seeing it discussed. Sensitive Site Exploitation (SSE) includes hard drives, SD cards, paper litter. I was trained on computer forensics @CIA and we've uncovered extraordinary leads from these resources.
2/ Imagine the insights gained about your personal life, your interests and your finances if someone had unfettered access to your phone, your laptop. SSE is a golden opportunity because it's also difficult to "stage" for denial & deception purposes.
3/ The NYT article made reference to SEE as a source for the Russia/Taliban intel. If the Taliban/Haqqani-associated SSE contained financial data - $$ transfers from banks used by either group, account numbers, etc., this is more iron clad than a phone/email intercept bc...
4/ There is far less potential for denial and deception (big with Russia, not so much Taliban) with all those SSE leads. In sum: if that financial intel was gotten from the drives, we should've acted on it long ago as we have done in many operations past.
