Ideological diversity is important! But I am always confused at the assumption that it's liberals who live in ideological bubbles and not conservatives. Liberals, after all, are more likely to (1) live in cities where there are more people with different views and backgrounds
(2) Read & watch news that strives for fairness and includes a variety of viewpoints (CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and other publications read by liberals are all MUCH more ideologically diverse than Fox, Breitbart, & other publications favored by conservatives)
(3) Attend colleges that strive for diversity, including diversity of background & viewpoint. Contrary to right-wing claims, they are less likely than religious colleges, for example, to have strict rules around student speech, organizing, and who can speak on campus about what.
Anyway, it's impossible to read the op/ed pages of a mainstream newspaper like the Times, or watch a mainstream network like CNN, and not come into contact with conservative ideas (much to the chagrin of some people on the left!).
It is very difficult to graduate from a liberal arts college or public university and never come into contact with conservative ideas, intellectuals, and students. It is very easy to graduate from a private religious school and be formally shielded from, say, feminist ideology.
It is very difficult to live in any of America's big cities and not come into contact with a lot of people who see the world very differently from you. It is very easy to live in a rural area, which are more homogenous, and mostly be around folks who look and think like you.
