Only universities who bring energy/creativity + listen to their students/alumni will make it through this pandemic. This can be our BoT/President/Athletic Dept& #39;s finest hour or could be the beginning of the end for UA. Critical moments tend to bring the best/worst in leaders.
Step 1 - Provide a response to @Clayton_Murph and Zips Alumni. That& #39;s not taking a side, either - but simply stating that an honest, transparent response is needed. You can& #39;t push away important alumni at this critical time and every day of silence only makes it worse.
Step 2 - Find ways to use the football stadium. Minor league baseball teams have held family movie nights, rented the field to youth teams/fans, etc. Our stadium mostly sits there, empty, unused. The @AkronRubberDuck are doing socially distanced fireworks night - why isn& #39;t UA?
Step 3 - Engage alumni in ways that aren& #39;t just asking for $ or sending cardboard pennants. Fundraising is HUGE but people donate more if they actually feel engaged than they will with outdated methods. The Negro League Museum& #39;s "Tip of the Cap" is a great example of engagement.
Connect us with more good stories and alumni successes. Uber-talented Zips alum @MatthewACherry won a freaking Oscar. An Oscar! Why aren& #39;t we at the forefront of celebrating that? Why aren& #39;t we promoting his great short, Hair Love, to students and alumni?
Cuts will be a part of this but you can& #39;t just hold out your hat and hope enough people feel bad for you and save UA. We need every singlr leader to step up and lead to get us through this pandemic and then back on the rise.
