'Never let it be said I am not pretentious' - I quote a great man, but do not wish to call him pretentious. But he's right. Being pretentious is your birth-right, pretentiousness is Exuberance, and as Blake said, 'Exuberance is Beauty'
Actually, there are 2 kinds of pretension- a good and bad kind. The good described above, the bad is anytime one's efforts to LARP outpace the fruits of LARPing into a negative zone of pure hollow pretence
'Fake it till you make it' but there's a threshold past which one's 'Faking' hits negative returns, taking one further rather than closer from immersion in the LARP
Sensibility is real and can be refined to astonishing degrees- wine and whisky-tasting, weird music genres like noise and free jazz, experimental poetry, art criticism- all require an aptitude for play of imaginative speculation: 'what would it be like to enjoy this?'
This imaginative speculation itself is the mode of participation- it is a process of tuning into the frequency of the sense data derived from wine, noise, painting etc (also not that hard, most just don't know how to get started)
Midwit: 'wine descriptions are sooo pretentious', no, reading expert prose descriptions of taste, expanding aesthetic vocabulary of taste to include 'mouthfeel', 'texture', 'subnotes', all contribute to Total Sensory Experience
Accusing someone of Pretension (when accurate) is drawing attention to ironic distance between Apparent Reality and the LARPer terminally lost in their own LARP (perhaps that is the joke of this song)
This thread could only have been written by a highly pretentious person (the good kind), only a pseud would bother making such distinctions
