I voted today. I was in and out in < 10 minutes. Voting was easy for me. Systems made it easy for me. This is in a world of voter suppression, in a world where my own brother has had his right to vote stripped from him. Naming your privileges should make you feel gross. (1/4)
But don't stop there! People are throwing around the term "anti racist" a lot, and if you are trying to be an anti-racist, put it into practice. When you vote, is it easy for you? Why is it easy for you? What systems have made it easy for you, but not for others? Why? (2/4)
Interrogate this. Always focus on the systems at play, not individual people, not what you *think* you did to "deserve" to be where you are. There is nothing inherent about human beings that makes some of us worthy of rights and others no longer worthy (3/4)
-if that's where your mind is, you are 100% not being anti-racist. So, you've interrogated systems and realize how problematic they are. Cool. Now look up voter suppression in your state, and take action. You can start here: https://www.aclu.org/news/civil-liberties/block-the-vote-voter-suppression-in-2020/ (4/4)
