Some Sunnahs related to Jinaza

• When you’re close to a dying person, ask him to say the Shahada

Ex.
“Abdullah Say La’ilaha illallah”

- if he said it, then leave him alone
- unless if he say another thing after the shahada, ask him again to say it

- but don’t stress em

1/
• It’s just “La’ilaha illallah”
- not “la’ilaha illalah Muhammadu Rasulullah”

• Close their eyes once they died
- there’s a du’ah in Hisnul Muslim, to recite.

• Bath them
- their close relatives should do that preferably
E.g Husband to wife

• Settle their debts

2/
• Enshroud them in white
- Don’t sew the cloth into trousers & shirt
- just plain

• Hasten to pray & bury them
- unless if there’s a valid reason to delay it
Eg, it’s midnight.

• Don’t use another material on top to cover the shroud(the body)
- E.g mats, flags

3/
• Women can attend the Salatul Jinaza

• Carry the dead to the grave on foot
- except if it’s too far
- u can walk at the right or left or back of the body, but not front.

• Off your shoes when entering the graveyard
- except for a valid reason
Eg; thorns, too hot

4/
• Say “Bismillah wa’ala sunnati rasulullah”
- if u’re the one lowering the dead in their grave

• If the deceased is a woman,
- Only a man who didn’t had an intercourse last night, can lower her in her grave
- also close relatives are preferred

5/
• After they’re buried,
- Everybody will say their du’ahs individually
- not in congregation
- once you’re done, you leave

• Place a sign at the head side so as to remember the grave incase you come back to visit
Eg; a stone
- don’t cement & engrave names

6/
• The ta’aziyya can be done anywhere and anytime
- if u’re able to console them at their office or work place or even soon after the jinaza, it’s okay
- u can meet them at home also, but just console & leave, no gists & feasts

• Say only good about them
