Meanwhile NYC taxpayers will still pay for a cadet training course in October that will initiate 1,100 new officers. Those who complain about safety will be reminded that if we CUT 5% of the police force, saving an estimated $219 million, we would be back at 2014 levels—hardly “the most violent year” of NYC’s notorious history. Instead policing only expands year after year
“Cuts” don’t just mean shifting around funds so that police are paid through a different department. We are asking you to address NYC’s problems & desires with a fundamentally different framework, as opposed to governing through criminalization and punishment.

@NYCSpeakerCoJo this thread is directed at you too. The significant number of protestors who have turned out this month, and the many more who supported them from home, will not remember you fondly in any future bids for power
