i for one would love to know what @SusanWojcicki is doing about the absolute CHAOS that she has allowed to fester on youtube under her watch. not a single one of these videos should’ve been made or been allowed to stay up for as long as they did, starting with bye sister.

the fact of the matter is that chaos like what we’ve seen between jeffree star, shane dawson, tati westbrook, james charles, nikita, manny, laura, and more IS A RESULT of youtube and @SusanWojcicki incentivizing and rewarding such behavior. same goes for facebook and @twitter.

youtube not only refuses to take action against people who spread hate on their platform, their algorithm puts that content into people’s feeds. youtube not only refuses to take action against those who use the influence they’ve gained from youtube to hurt others, they reward it.

no, youtubers aren’t employees of youtube. but if twitter can ban katie hopkins and laura loomer from their platform, @youtube can do the same for the white supremacists on their site, and dole out consequences to other creators who cause issues like dramageddon (1 + 2 ).

the fact of the matter is that jeffree star and shane dawson are not NEW to this. the content that @youtube conveniently NOW decided to demonetize his accounts over WAS CREATED ON YOUTUBE, and i don’t even know where to START with j*.

and yet @SusanWojcicki does nothing.

i mean, pewd*p*e is still yukking it up on youtube, though, so if that’s fine with susan then she’s probably not all that concerned about whatever pandemonium is going on in the beauty community.

youtube is yet another platform that incentivizes hate and chaos, and these lackluster tweaks that they’ve made to their TOS over recent years — only after being called out by victims of targeted abuse on said platform — are not enough.

unlike twitter + facebook, you can INSTANTLY make money from @youtube. and due to their algorithm, you have an incentive to build a brand off bigotry, lies, and chaos.

tati was horrifically irresponsible and shane and jeffree are monsters, but youtube provided the foundation.

there are so many amazing creators online who don’t get the recognition they deserve or the support they need when they’re the target of hate and abuse, not only because people are naturally drawn to drama but because social media incentivizes behavior like dramageddon.
