Been thinking a lot about past spending habits and creators I’ve supported, especially when it comes to controversial influencers like J*. It was a long time of accepting apologies that weren’t mine to accept or believing he had changed.
I still believe people can change, but that still doesn’t right past actions if current actions don’t reflect a changed person. I guess I just want to say, for the record, that I no longer support this person’s brand or channel, and haven’t for some time.
I’m in the process of throwing out the makeup I’ve purchased of his, and I haven’t purchased any of his products in over two years. Racism is never okay. Being controversial for controversy’s sake is, frankly, pathetic the more that I think about it.
I’m sorry for any hurt I may have indirectly caused by my own naivety and will continue to work on being a better ally. I’ve donated money to BLM charities and will continue to do so, as well as putting money towards Black-owned beauty brands in the future.
I don’t have a huge platform, but I hope something I’ve said here will make a difference. Education, humility, and dedication are the way through. Only love and light, Penny. ✨
I should also add that this is not an exhaustive list of petitions I’ve signed or petitions that are out there. I will be adding to this thread as I sign. http://chng.it/Pm6n5FDmxh
