A thread on the mysterious Nation of "Islam"
The nation of Islam is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting groups and a very influential group in the civil rights movement in America.

We will be looking into their core beliefs, their founders, their members, its influence on young african americans, and more.
The starting of the NOI (nation of islam) comes from its very mysterious and lesser known founder, Wallace Fard Muhammad.

Wallace Fard was a mysterious man, who used several different names and arrived to detroit in the 1930s as a salesmen in the ghettos of detroit
Wallace sold clothes and silk, which was native to his country (most likely Saudi Arabia) from door to door. He went to black families who migrated and sold to them. Then, he would come and would first preach to them from the Bible, which most people there were familiar to
Membership surprisingly grew fast, and the NOI soon could afford a hall where Wallace would preach to his followers. Wallace would then teach from the Qur'an, and he advised his followers to not send their kids to public schools, rather he made "The university of Islam"
He also founded the "Fruit of Islam" for young males, to defend the members and spread the Nation of Islam's version of "Islam", as well as an area for women to learn how to clean, cook and teach.

Soon, he no longer had the need to show himself to his followers,
And he disappeared completely, leaving Elijah Muhammad in charge of the NOI. Elijah Muhammad was very influential, and taught Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Louis Farrakhan, and his son, who stopped practicing most of the kufr in NOI, Warith Deen Mohammed.

Elijah Muhammad was interes
interested in black nationalist movements, and joined the NOI, and believed Wallace was "The Mahdi", and took direct teachings from Wallace and succeeded him later on. He established "Temples" and "Schools" and grew the nation of islam's membership a lot.
Now onto the NOI's belief system: The original NOI (i'll get back to this) believed that the black race lived a great race on earth and an Evil scientist named Yaqub created white people with the process called grafting, and the time would come for black peoples to rise up.
They also believed that Wallace Fard was a god and Elijah Muhammad was the prophet (Astaghfirallah). They were also strangely pro segregation and were anti race mixing.

The NOI was also said to have been the one to assassinate Malcolm X for leaving the NOI
Now, the funniest part isnt even yaqub the scientist, its that this group has sects as well.

The NOI was founded by a Caucasian, Wallace Fard, and this was strange due to this being a black nationalist movement, so some people formed the "5 percenters" (which is even more wacky)
(and filled with more kufr, but I will cover them some other time).

The main splinter groups emerged after the death of Elijah Muhammad, with most people giving loyalty to his son, Warith Deen Muhammad, who decided to get rid of the kufr and join mainstream ahle sunnah (sunnism)
But this would put one of Elijah's students, Louis Farrakhan, out of the picture, so he left and re-founded the Nation of Islam and continued its beliefs of kufr and shirk to this day.

Muhammad Ali notably joined Ahle Sunnah (Sunnism) under Warith Deen Muhammad.
The NOI was one of the first muslim groups in America and built some of the first masjids in america as well.

An interesting and funny group for sure, with most of its members, alhamdulillah joining ahle sunnah after the death of Elijah Muhammad.
