Levelland Mayor, Barbara Pinner, has received backlash from members of her community following a post she shared on her personal Facebook page over the weekend. The post, claiming to be authored by a dying black men, uses racial slurs throughout.
Pinner later deleted the tweet and issued an apology that read “This morning I shared a post written by an older black gentleman that thought was very well written but apparently several people have taken offense and now think i am racist...
...i am not a racist in any way, shape or form! I’m very sorry if i offended ANY one. That was not my intent.”
Members of the #Levelland community gathered yesterday afternoon to speak out against the mayor’s post.
“We’re already going through this, police killing black people. She just added on top of that,” says Levelland resident Daisy Gutierrez. “I voted for her...it just shook me.”
The Mayor issued a statement, apologizing for her actions. “my heart aches as I have hurt many members of my own community by sharing a post from another individual on my personal Facebook page...” it reads.
I spoke with Darrel Phillips who is from Levelland and now lives in Lubbock. He says he wasn’t surprised to see a post like that. He was surprised by who shared it.

When asked if there’s anything she could say to make it better. His response was simply, “No.”
