Wow!!! I recently had the immense honor of making a Google Doodle illustration in memory of Marsha P. Johnson as the capstone to pride month. Thanks so much to the Doodle team for this awesome opportunity. Happy Pride ❤️🏳️‍🌈 https://twitter.com/GoogleDoodles/status/1277814105131364354
And for those curious, I initially had the 7 bar Lesbian flag in my rough but had to remove it as I was informed that the designer of that flag has made some awful remarks and not representative of the rest of the community.
Thank you all for the very insightful commentary. I would like to reiterate that this was ultimately not my decision (as you can see in the rough passes of this piece). I am a freelance illustrator. as much as I would like to have complete control over art direction I still (1/2)
have to bend to the requests of those above me. Some of said directions might have been based off of outdated/incorrectly sourced information, & I wish I had gotten the chance to have more of a conversation with those I was working with in order to provide full (2/3)
representation for the whole community instead of communicating erasure in any form. The fact that a piece which was meant to unite our community is now proving to be so divisive is reflective of that lapse in communication and I apologize to everyone who has felt (3/3)
ostracized by this!!!
