Yesterday in the Keauhou fire zone @jeff_stallman pointed out all of the just above grass height 'ōhi'a that made it through the seedling bottleneck (lots of seedlings initially that don’t quite make it)
This is really exciting because usually'ōhi'a struggle to make it through to this stage when there are a lot of fast growing weeds around, like ALL THAT exotic grass, because they grow pretty slow. That’s why usually you see them on nurse logs... above the weeds.
As previously noted, we also saw ALOT of blackberry. I also chose the wrong pants and now my legs are riddled with scratches.

Synthetic field pants + blackberry = not good

Other sights: this mamaki fruit.

It looks like a gelatinous blob. If you’re wondering, it also tastes like a gelatinous blob. I’ve never tasted something that so closely described nothing in my life.

Anyway... birds like them and that’s good because it’s native.
Another blobby looking thing: this black polka dot fungi. No clue what this is. Quote by @jeff_stallman : “ascomycetes are hard”
