"Black Male privilege" says Black men are complicit in a system that by design, oppresses women, so therefore BM have "privilege" even though BM as a group do not hold any power or control in this system & do not get to partake in the real rewards this system affords to other men
Using this logic, Black women exist in a society that allows the police to brutalise & murder Black men disproportionately without consequence and even though BW do not control or hold power in this system, BW are privileged by default in this area. So are we all privileged then?
I could say ALL women have certain "privileges" over Black men. Men commit suicide more, murdered by police more, more likely to be homeless, killed in the workplace, and are less educated than women. Black women share in this "privilege" over Black men then because we are women
It's possible & very necessary for us to have discussions about intracommunial harm in the Black community and make space for those who are victimized & ways needed to combat these things, without resulting to trying to enforce this nonsensical ideology. We are all suffering.
What is an actual "privilege" (backed with evidence) that Black men SPECIFICALLY receive as a group if you claim they have certain privileges? Why are you specifically focusing on one of the most brutalised groups and trying to force this meaningless "privilege" on them?
I'm a fan of balanced discussions, just because one side is louder doesn't mean they're correct. I'm yet to see sources with empirical data, not random text written by a shady scholar who does not cite sources or have bibliographies, used to prove this "privilege" specific to BM
Thing is, most men agree we live in a patriarchal society, but trying to lay blame at the feet of Black men specifically with "Black male privilege" and comparing this "privilege" to a white women's is ridiculous, especially as all evidence points to the complete opposite
By that logic, Black men and women both seem to have certain inherent "privileges" for simply existing in society, even though as a group we benefit the LEAST here. Knowing this, why are we trying to create this powerless, feeble idea of "privilege" & use it as a label among us?
