Recently I've seen people in various ministry circles drawing on @NeilShenvi's work to critique Christians exploring racial injustice because it is supposedly critical race theory.
I recorded 2 lectures to address major problems in his work, plus train you to find them also.
I recorded 2 lectures to address major problems in his work, plus train you to find them also.
Lecture 1 is titled "Five Yellow Flags," and shows five common mistakes that are found throughout Shenvi's corpus, focusing on a case study of his recent bizarre claim that the common definition of systemic racism is dangerous.
Lecture 2 is titled "Worldviews and Tools" and gets to the heart of the matter. Shenvi claims that aspects of CRT are helpful tools, but CRT is a dangerous worldview. Yet, he doesn't come close to showing that those he critiques have adopted the worldview
A few weaknesses in lecture 2: I lost my place at the beginning. Worse, I speak of a "race problem" rather than "racism," embodying the sort of psychological tendency to skirt the issues that Tisby (whom Shenvi criticizes) is addressing. So, I kept the mistake in.
I've told @NeilShenvi that if he posts a response (not on social media) I'm willing to add it to the bottom of this thread.
Feel free to share the video with those who may be helped by it. I'm not interested in or able to engage in extensive twitter debate on the lectures.

Neil has replied with modifications to his article, moving further from weak evidence (flag #1) and thereby showing that definitional shift (flag #2) doesn't apply to Kendi, but does to the CSI which he now cites. https://twitter.com/NeilShenvi/status/1278358441422192641
