A Catholic pastor in Indiana called Black Lives Matter demonstrators "maggots and parasites."
That is hideously racist and must be unequivocally condemned.
I hope he will take this moment to listen, learn, repent, and commit to work for racial justice. https://www.indystar.com/story/news/local/hamilton-county/carmel/2020/06/30/carmel-church-pastor-message-against-black-lives-matter-demonstrators/3284148001/

Systemic white supremacy doesn't require white hoods and public declarations, and the work of dismantling it will be a long, uncomfortable process of white folks addressing our complicity in and defense of the structures of which we are a part, including our Church.
Every Catholic bishop in the U.S. should be asking how to integrate intentional antiracism training into priestly formation. Every seminary should be including it as a mandatory part of the curriculum. Lay staffers and volunteers should undergo formation as well.
Antiracism efforts should transform every aspect of Catholic parish life, from elementary school religious education to youth group discussions to adult education series. A one-off workshop won't solve it. We've got to commit to the long-term work of repentance and reparations.
