Anyway, petition for all white boys who are taking over major IP franchises to produce at least 500K words of fanfic written in universe prior to their pitch so we know that this isn't their first fucking attempt and we stop getting *gestures wildly* what we've gotten so far.
Actually, now that I"m thinking about it, I think it's a good idea. One fic MUST be a soulmates AU about fanon's most popular couple. Another must be a "5 Times" fic about the canon couple they have to write.
A HS or College AU is necessary (at least 50K) so they truly understand their characters in low-stakes situations. At least 100K must be their *FIRST* concept, so we can get that out of the way and not be subjected to it on our screens.
All OCs must have *at least* 30K of backstory that leads them into the moment they plan on introducing them into canon. (This is separate from the 500K requirement, all of that must be semi-canon compliant character wise, so they're truly doing a deep dive in universe).
Additionally, to the 5 Times fic, they must write a minimum 50K slow burn fic for the couple that will be getting together on screen at some point. They also must kill off EVERY character in the course of the 500K at least once, so we don't get their first attempt at that either.
Anyway, the women of fandom have been doing this work, for free, for far longer and INVARIABLY write content superior to the fandom reboots we've been seeing over the last decade or so. In conclusion, stop making a man's first fan fic attempt canon. Thanks.
*women and non-binary authors, I meant to say.
And no, they can't use ANY of the content above unless the fic creates such a stir that it becomes a fanon-accepted truth and more popular than previous canon (See: Remus/Sirius, etc.)
