#Madagascar was once home to an aptly-named range of megafauna, including LEMURS THE SIZE OF GORILLAS, elephant birds (referring to size rather than appendages), and these sloth lemurs.
the largest land animals left today are the Fossa (an elusive cat-like mammal) and the Indri. If you haven't heard of Indri before, treat yourself to a recording of their calls now:
