Illiteracy got the upper hand when we stopped teaching phonics.

We have a lot of work to do, folks.

Lots.

We have generational illiteracy in families. The kids come to school w/ 'word gaps'. We're more offended w/ actual gaps than the sys that created them.

I don't know y'all. I can't be at the top of my game teaching Math & Science if I have to try teaching Reading at same time.

Does anyone have a Reading Specialist in their bldg who actually...works with kids on Reading? Do they hold workshops for teachers?

Imagine what a school could accomplish if the Reading Specialist was OG trained????

I try to tell myself to focus on one thing, but everything is on fire at the same damn time.

I CAN'T DO THE COOL WORD PROBLEMS (Inceased DOK) IF I HAVE TO READ EVERYTHING TO THEM ALL THE TIME.

READING SHOULD BE CONSIDERED HIGHER ORDER THINKING.
