I noticed that most of the comments garnered here, w/ the retweets are dismissive. But perhaps one appreciates how ideas like nationalism develop thru time—at first seeing one's self as under a "mother" country, then being awoken & seeing one's self as capable & independent. https://twitter.com/NHCPOfficial/status/1277918305114677251
The point being, don't judge a particular work in history as detached from the growth of the person that authored it, who might have developed or changed his ideas over time. Look at Rizal, Del Pilar, Jaena, even critics like Wenceslao Retana etc.
I, for one judge Juan Luna (the artist), for the murder of his wife and mother-in-law, even when he was acquitted. Justice is central to my view of history, see. And I think such act says something of the artist's character and morals.
