/14 Not surprised at comments given the hierarchical, authoritative structure & micro-politics of football. Just highlights a clear dysfunctional pandemic in professionals incompetent of processing & delivering information https://twitter.com/bbcsportscot/status/1277601577214324737">https://twitter.com/bbcsports...
/14 human body serves as medium for tradecraft expertise. = Enormous room for error as human body can compensate for incompetence. Hierarchical figures will shift blame on those lower down when everything fails. Take no responsibility for their incompetence.
/14 “Sports Science” has been misinterpreted. They are experts in the body & are quality control managers of stress. They help coaches become better coaches by creating robustness & durability so athletes can withstand stress.
/14 Increasing physical preparation allows athletes & coaches to utilize & tap into a greater percentage of technical-tactical potential.
/14 Comments about a "definite shift" away from physically demanding sessions highlight a lack of physical preparation understanding.
/14 A high % of time, athletes are over trained physically. But undertrained from a psychological, skill acquisition & motor learning standpoint. Mainly because of western cultures (more is more and better).
/14 In professional sport, we work with specimens – Ferraris & supper cars as such. But coaches drive them around as ford focuses. In reality, players need to be fine-tuned. They need specific stress for the needed adaptation.
/14 there are specific ways to systematically creat stress on the body to get a greater impact. Suspect Levein doesn’t understand this.
/14 Suspect what Levein tends to do is stroke his ego. Making players work harder, to make himself feel better, by doing “more work”, to give himself more security that he is good at his job.
/14 However, If training is planned correctly and built around the context of the game. Then you are preparing players for the sport ahead. >90% of the time in season conditioning does not need to be done separately.
/14 If training is systematically planned and robust enough, you will cover all bases. keeping players highly tunned.
/14 Levein “physically demanding sessions.” doesn& #39;t equate to success!Specific work equates to success, the goal is to streamline training models incorporating all primary contributory elements of sporting performance - psychological, technical, tactical, physical etc.
/14 Opposed to exposing players over & over to meaningless training that has no effectiveness. Exposing the players to the correct dosage will give you a better product on the filed.
/14 Rather than just throwing hard training to see what happens or throw a bunch of stress on players and see what happens.
@BBCSportScot @BBCSportsound get me on to I squash this dogmatic thinking. Absolute shambles. It’s old school thinking. Stone Age.
