Hang on. "A £12bn affordable homes programme that will support up to 180,000 new affordable homes for ownership and rent over the next 8 years, confirmed today." Urm... that's not doing more - that's a cut!
That money had been announced for 5 year.. extending it means it's been reduced by more than a third
And today it's just gone to 8 years - the same money made to last longer. Build, build, build? Urm.. but less and later apparently
That means we've gone from £2.4bn a year for affordable homes to just £1.5bn a year. Just when we need to do more, we're going to do less? And it's announced literally from a lectern that says 'Build, build, build'? Come on!
And this one the very day Savills have made clear just how much trouble the construction sector is in with over 300k homes at risk https://www.telegraph.co.uk/property/uk/coronavirus-chaos-means-britain-could-lose-318000-new-homes/
And I've vented all I need to vent, but the short version is - this does not sound like the new deal. It's a third less funding for affordable homes each year. I don't think Roosevelt went round blowing up dams.
