The extent to which the CCP has Hong Kong religious bodies on a leash thanks to their dependence on school funding should be like Exhibit A for the State Secularization hypothesis.
Anyways, we are at the “my Uber driver tonight has managed to qualify for an investment visa in another country and is moving his family in two weeks” stage of the crisis.
But seriously y’all the US needs to set up a special program to recruit HK people. If freedom-loving societies do not stand together than we will fall alone. If the American promise still has any juice left in it now would be the time.
Tibetans. Uyghurs. Kazakhs. Mongolians. Trade unionists and Christian pastors, instagrammers who crossed an invisible line and students who made a sign: how long will we act like this regime can be tolerably accommodated? Hong Kong has fallen. Will we abandon Taiwan? Korea?
Just make it “first they came for the Tibetans...” and the whole quote writes itself and the best part is China also recently demolished some ancient Jewish synagogues because they didn’t look Chinese enough, so like yeah that’s where we are
We should be doing for Hong Kong people what we did for Cubans, or more. Honestly we should just let them claim refugee status at the airport.
The world has stood by for 23 years as China systematically dismantled the only free corner of its territory, and all while the world’s corporations were headquartered a few hundred yards away.
We should be getting these people out of here as fast as possible. And when that is accomplished, we should be taking measures to ensure that this campaign of communist aggression goes no further.
Friends waking up in America.

You will celebrate July 4 in a few days.

Here in HK, freedom is being murdered. At midnight, a secretly-drafted national security law will be imposed on a city which once had liberty.

Do not ignore these people.
Responding to all the WhatsApp messages we are getting, the only consolations we have been able to offer our friends here who are crying out for Liberty are: 1) Christ suffers with us 2) we are citizens of Heaven first 3) I believe America will eventually wake up
I hate that last consolation. I hate that I have to stand in front of someone who longs for liberty, who is prepared to sacrifice and fight for liberty, and tell them... I hope my people whose creed is liberty might someday take notice.
But while I hate that I must position that consolation in a hopeful future rather than a present reality, I fear even more the other consolations. I do not want my friends’ interactions with the kingdom of man to lead them to seek a higher appeal to the kingdom of God.
I know that we are absorbed by many things in America right now. Debates about race. Coronavirus. Police reform. An election.

We can have those debates because our society enjoys political liberties which make space for the debates to occur.
Hong Kong politics doesn’t get to have those debates because they don’t even have enough political liberties to be able to. And what little they have is being stripped away, especially on this night of all nights.
The CCP believes that political liberty, by enabling debates that reveal disagreements, makes societies weak, and therefore that now is a good time to strike in various key priorities that democratic societies oppose.
I believe this theory is wrong. I think suppressing debate leads to systematically bad policy making, misjudgement, simmering resentments, and instability.

Please for the love of God y’all don’t let the CCP’s theory be right.
It is a choice: do we allow our very real and important disagreements about many issues to distract us from the daylight murder of a free society? Or do we see in those disagreements proofs of the value of those liberties, and rise to the occasion?
Call.

Your.

Congressman.

Express anger. Demand an aggressive footing against the CCP. Ask your congressman to go on a codel to Taiwan. Ask for a carrier to visit Taipei. Ask for widespread sanctions on every CCP member and their kin.
Honestly it doesn’t matter what policy you ask for; your congressman needs to hear your rage at what China is doing. You can leave details to people whose job is details.
Maybe the concentration camps in Xinjiang motivate you more. Or the oppression of Tibet. Or the commercial surgical dismemberment of Falun Gong members. Or the threat of an invasion of Taiwan. Or the imprisonment of pastors. Or the imprisonment of trade unionists.
It doesn’t matter where you stand if you are a part of a free society then China is hurting you and people with whom you share some kind of bond of sympathy and concern. Communicate to congress member that you want the default position towards the CCP to be antagonism.
No win-win. We want the CCP to lose, even if it costs us something. We are not looking for opportunities to cooperate on shared priorities. We want our leaders to degrade, weaken, and humiliate the CCP and anyone connected to it.
攬炒 . That’s the motto. If China wants to go the road of great power conflict, we will go right with them: we will burn together. https://twitter.com/xinwenxiaojie/status/1162047384152694787?s=20 https://twitter.com/xinwenxiaojie/status/1162047384152694787
