There are lots of great studies into #CulturalSafety. Originated in New Zealand as a way of providing culturally safe care to the indigenous population. However, many countries inc. Canada have adapted the theory to include other macro/micro cultures. @RCNNQN #RCNNQN https://twitter.com/receivingconsnt/status/1277896533275443200
IMO, cultural safety is what we should be aiming for. Nurses/health & social care staff can be as culturally aware as they like. But if individuals do not feel as though care is culturally safe then it borders on virtue signalling & a tick box exercise #CulturalSafety #RCNNQN
Itâs why I strongly believe #CulturalSafety should be built into all pre-registration nursing, medical and AHP curricula & continuing professional development. We say we deliver person centred care and ask âWhat Matters To Youâ but Iâm not convinced we always do @RCNNQN #RCNNQN
#CulturalSafety models can & have been successfully adapted to provide safe inclusive care to many populations, inc those from a #BAME background, #LGBT+ background etc. The thing is staff need to be educated & feel empowered to do so. It needs to become second nature #RCNNQN
