You know what I'd like to see in my lifetime? A free, inclusive Wales steering its own path on the world stage, basing its decisions on the needs of the people of Wales and the good of our country. But there is much to do if we are to achieve that. (Thread)
Firstly, we must put to bed the argument that Wales is too poor. We must commission a study to establish the true GDP of Wales, including our energy and utility exports. This will then prove that we can forge the economic basis of an independent country.
Secondly, we must commit to close the gaps between the richest and poorest areas of the country, and equalise the standard of living across Wales. We do this with investment based on local needs, supported by inward investment.
Jobs. We must create high value jobs, so that our youngsters have a choice to stay and invest their futures in Wales. Apprenticeships, graduate programmes and development programmes are the way to do this.
Inclusivity is key. Wales cannot be seen to be an inward facing country. We must embrace the multicultural environmemt we now find ourselves living in. The diversity in Wales goes back generations and it gives us an opportunity to develop as a mature nation.
An international focus will draw in businesses and investment needed to help us build our nation to become a sustainably wealthy country. Smaller countries have done it and so can we.
We must protect our heritage, culture and language. It sets us apart from many countries. Our history must be taught to our children, we must also face our part in colonial enterprises throughout history. It is how we learn to be better.
