💶Pricing policies are one of the most cost-effective strategies to reduce #alcohol consumption and alcohol related harm, yet they are the least implemented in the WHO European region.
Raising alcohol taxes is known to reduce #alcohol consumption and improve population health, but 2⃣3⃣ out of 5⃣3⃣ countries in the WHO European Region do not have any duty on wine at all.
Evidence shows that a minimum unit price on alcoholic beverages is a powerful tool that can reduce inequalities in alcohol-attributable deaths, but only 8⃣ out of 5⃣3⃣ countries of the Region have this policy in place.
📝Current systems of pricing across the WHO European Region vary greatly and are poorly aligned with available evidence. Well-chosen pricing policies can help countries not only lower alcohol consumption and associated health risks, but also benefit economies.
