NEW THREAD - SET AND FORGET CAPTAINS? My Season So Far 🚨 Is keeping the captaincy on one premium option for the entire season better than changing on a weekly basis based on form and fixtures?
1) For GW1 in the 2019/2020 FPL season, I captained Mo Salah at Home to the newly promoted Norwich City. He scored 12 points, giving me a points total of 24 as my captain! A successful start!
2) Since GW1, I have captained a total of 11 players (Salah, Sterling, KDB, Abraham, Martial, Vardy, Mane, Son, Rashford, Pogba, Aguero). That’s a lot of changing!
3) In 15/31 (48.3%) of the gameweeks so far I had a Captain blank. Alternatively, Mo Salah blanked in 14/31 gameweeks (45.16%). Therefore, the Egyptian was SLIGHTLY more consistent.
4) Therefore, in 16/31 GWs my Captain did not blank. In half of these (8/31) my Captain returned 10+ points. Salah equally achieved 10+ points in 8/31 GWs. It’s a tie for double digit hauls!
5) FINAL RESULTS: The most important statistic of all, which would have given me more points? The set and forget, or tinkering and transferring on a GW-by-GW basis?

Mo Salah = 197 Captaincy Points
GW-by-GW = 183 Captaincy Points
6) Leaving my captaincy on Salah for the entire season would have resulted in MORE points (14 to be exact). It must be noted that this could be due to multiple failed captaincy picks from me, and had I just got one or two more decisions correct, it is likely...
7) ...that my Captaincy points would be 200+. Indeed, Captaining the top player each week would have resulted in an additional 538 points! Whilst this is unrealistic (e.g. due to players like Noble & Snodgrass having the highest GW totals), well-chosen Captaincy options would..
8) ...definitely be more valuable than a set and forget Captain! However, due to the difficulty in consistently getting the Captain choice correct, this does pose a common and intriguing question: how valuable is it to have a set and forget captain?đź‘€
