Happy 21st birthday SYP! We're celebrating by sharing “21 gifts SYP has given Scotland’s young people”.

SYP wouldn’t be the organisation it is today without the young people and youth workers who have continuously stood up for youth participation in decision-making. #SYPturns21

MSYPs will also be getting involved by sharing a gift SYP has given them. 🎁
🎁 SYP first called for a ban in smoking in public places in 2004 – 2 years before it came into force!

🎁 In 2011, the fight for marriage equality was our top concern. ‘Love Equally’ successfully campaigned for same-sex marriage and mixed-sex couple to be able to have civil partnerships!

🎁In 2012, MSYPs voted to make Votes at 16 SYP’s priority national campaign.

Thanks to our campaigning, 16 and 17 year olds were given the right to vote in the 2014 Scottish Referendum, and the right to vote in all Scottish Parliamentary elections.
🎁Alongside our brilliant partners, we persuaded the Scottish Government to incorporate the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into Scots law ⬇️
🎁SYP played a key part in the campaign to support a new law that makes it illegal to physically assault a child – which MSPs passed into law in 2019!
