Its seen as part of the process of caring for your baby.
The same way you massage their body with hot water - you extend that care to their vagina.
During omugwo, the grandmother is often the one in charge of this.

FGM with razor has been heavily criticised that its easy for this new form of FGM to thrive under the radar.
It is a topic that has hit home because many women dont even know they are circumcised.
Some only find out when they see a doctor or during child birth.

There are different types of FGM.
Some people also remove/ shrink the labias- this is done esp to create 'fine vagina'
Type 1 and type 2 are popular.
In some cultures- they do the opposite and stretch the labia - that's called FGM type4.
