I just stumbled upon a thread about Beyoncé’s appropriation of “African” culture (I put it in quotation marks cause Africa has many separate cultures) and it got me thinking, is it the same when African artists incorporate rap/hip hop into their music? i.e Afro-beats.
Where do the lines cross and where are boundaries overstepped when it comes to incorporating respective cultures?
I mean I’ve had my own critique about her stepping into the African scene:
I mean tbh, outside of Spirit, I don’t like the album that much and it’s really for this very reason.
