A thread on #Annexation:
Whether you are in favor of or opposed to #Annexation happening tomorrow, you shouldn't be surprised that the @netanyahu two-step started yesterday: "We said it would start beginning on July 1..." Meaning: it isn't happening, at least not now. 1/9
This was in addition to: "Not dependent on Kahol Lavan." "This is complicated." "We are working discreetly with the US..." In other words, "It ain't happening today!" 2/9
If anything happens in #Israel tomorrow about annexation, it will be an ambiguous, amorphous, non-statement by Bibi about starting a process or creating a committee to explore the details starting the process of annexation. 3/9
Sadly, his supporters will believe and stand by him despite his not actually annexing. Similarly, those who hate him and, in many cases, hate Israel, will use his non-statement as proof that he is going ahead with annexation. 4/9
When reason and recognition of past behavior prevails, both sides will see that annexation requires Bibi to do that which he prefers to avoid at all costs: doing. 5/9
People on both sides of the conversation forget that this is Netanyahu doing what he does best: Talking AND not doing. 6/9
Netanyahu was at his best when he was #Israel's Ambassador to the @UN because he was in a setting where everyone was expected to talk ad nauseam in order to avoid acting, ever. 7/9
Lots of people forget that Bibi will say whatever it takes to keep his seat as Prime Minister while doing as little as possible to create change. As a result, none of us should ever trust a word he says. 8/9
Annexation of the #WestBank, #JudeaSamaria, the #OccupiedTerritories, the #DisputedTerritories or whatever you call the land between The Green Line and The Jordan River, may happen someday. It may never happen. But, it will not happen while Netanyahu is Prime Minister. 9/9
