LONDON-INDIA BUS SERVICE: MORE COMMON THAN YOU THINK. As promised here are the details of bus service from London to Delhi that started in around 1955 and ended around 1978. In the early 2000 , I used to hang out at Paharganj ( backpacker hub of Delhi) with bunch of
original hippies who initially traveled to India in the 70s and they had told me about this bus service and people they knew who took these buses. Largely diary entries or travel forums of them or their children . There was this American lady who was legend among the
Indian travelers of that period. She took this bus from London to Delhi in 1975. Took ferry from Dover, England to Belgium and then Venice, Belgrade, Istanbul, Samsun,Trabzone, Tabriz, Tehran ,Mashed, Herat, Kabul Peshawer ,Lahore, Amritsar, Delhi. It took about 35 days and
costed $ 160 including food and lodging . And these buses were very common and there were plenty of companies running these buses. In fact you could get it from any major European country, Netherlands, Paris ..As she said- it was no biggie. If you want to go to the loo , u went
to the bushes- guy on one side and girls on the other . East Iran and Afghanistan did not had bushes to you went to the ditches at the side of the road. Her seat mate had also got his Dalmatian along !

There was another one whose parents who were now in 90s had taken the
bus from London to Nepal in the early 70s and called it the best experience of their lives.

They told me that one of the famous drivers of that bus was now ( in 2005) member of parliament from one of the counties in UK.
They told me about another guy ( John or Jon- cant read my own handwriting )-traveled from bus in the 70s from London- Dover, Belgium,Germany,Austria,Yugoslavia,Greece,Turkey,Iran,Afghanistan,Pakistan,India. Then from delhi he went to Goa, from goa to Rameshwaram to Ceylon
to Singapore to Perth where he stayed for 13 years before going back to UK in the 90s.
The buses were largely stopped around 1978 when the shah of Iran was deposed and it was no longer safe to pass through Iran .
Also adding few photos of the photos I took from my phone.
I think this guy Jon/ John had mailed them these photos since they part of same travel community/ forum
