Okay while I’d rather be exsanguinated than participate in discourse on The Blight in the year 2020 as someone whose completed extensive research into fairytales i have to point out that the Salem Witch Trials occurred from 1692-1693 whereas ATU Type 709 Tales (the classification https://twitter.com/j0j0aljar/status/1277672456774451202
widely used in fairytale scholarship to describe versions of Snow White stories across cultures) include versions such as “The Young Slave”, found in Giambattista Basile’s Pentamerone — which was published in Italy in 1634, 58 years before Salem — or even the Roman legend of
Chione as documented in Ovid’s Metamorphoses, first public in 8 C.E. (that’s over a millennium and a half before Salem for anyone counting). Some scholars even argue that the Grimm’s version of Snow White has basis in the real story of Margaretha von Waldeck (1533-1554).
Whilst there are plenty of arguments to be made about the representation of witches, queens, and stepmothers in fairytales, what OP is doing is making a bad faith argument based in fallacy and ignorance to try derail the valid concerns of POC, but honestly it’s such a laughably
fallible and malicious point it’s not even worth deconstructing because it won’t hold up in the eyes of anyone with a modicum of empathy. Anyway fairytale scholarship is very cool and ppl should engage with it before trying to discourse over Disney movies like fucknuggets ❤️
