please follow this thread of excerpts from an article i read that i really really enjoyed
so first, as a background, i'm a Jesus follower, i think a lot of you know that. i've always wondered what Jesus would do if He were amongst us today. and i look to His life and what He did as the perfect example to live by
now moving onto the article, which discusses things that Jesus did that were counter-cultural and caused lots of controversy (like Kaepernick taking a knee). one of these areas is Jesus healing on the Sabbath. it was considered a sin by religious leaders
"When you examine the gospels, you'll consistently see Jesus offering physical and social healing on the Sabbath. When Jesus did this, I can assure you that He was being intentional. He knew the pushback He was going to receive, yet was not deterred one bit..."
"Those who practiced the Sabbath (Jewish people and religious leaders) consistently overlooked those in need. Jesus, on the other hand, consistently heals on the Sabbath. Maybe in this act He was protesting the inconsistency in the Jewish people's ideals and their practice. "
"He was exposing the dissonance of their spirituality... Jesus didn't get rid of the Sabbath. He wanted to see it reflect its original intention. Kaepernick didn't burn the flag. He wants to see it reflect its original intention- liberty and justice for all."
my point- people do things that are counter-cultural, but it's for a purpose, and we need to understand the pure intent behind it, and that it's for the better of a nation, a world, a people. it means becoming an ally. it means making sure your actions line up with your words
