$4253 to apply to 12 programs
$895 = application fees
$802 = taking/sending GRE & subject test
$2424 = travel for interviews
$132 = sending transcripts

I'm sharing b/c the cost is prohibitive to many amazing applicants and contributes to the lack of diversity in #clinicalpsych https://twitter.com/shuquan_chen/status/1277737204438183936
It is important to note that 2 schools covered my flights (UCLA and UCSB), and 1 had no application fee (Loyola Chicago). I commend them for making this process more accessible, but more schools must join them. Specifically, to be more accessible departments should: 2/7
1) Not charge an application fee unless you plan to give feedback to students on their application
2) Reimburse, or at least partially reimburse, flights for students 3/7
3) ALWAYS PROVIDE INTERVIEW HOUSING. Not only was this an invaluable opportunity to learn about the program through students, it also is essential to ensure applicants don’t go into debt in the interview process. 4/7
4)EVEN BETTER, @APA could create a common application for psychology graduate schools like medical school, PA school, etc. This would reduce the burden on students and faculty by only submitting a LOR, GRE, and transcript once AND by lowering associated fees 5/7
TLDR; Costs to apply to #clinicalpsych grad school are prohibitive to students without familial financial support and/or students with loans. Psychology has a huge issue with a lack of representation and lowering the financial burden to apply could help diversify our field. 6/7
Lastly, if anyone is a potential #clinicalpsych #gradschool applicant and wants advice on applying, please DM me. I’m happy to help talk about ways to reduce costs and ways to make your application stand out. Good luck! 7/7
