A thread on @UCF s outrageous decision to charge its students more money during a pandemic. Please read and share so they know that we won’t allow them to take advantage of us in this way.

Let me start by saying that I understand that colleges in this country are struggling financially right now. So I understand charging us the same amount as usual in order to keep the institution above water.

But you have to remember that your students and their families are struggling too. Charging us extra for fewer services seems like a greedy way of taking advantage of your students who don’t have any extra money to spare.

If you have no clue what I’m talking about, @UCF has added a new fee called “Distance Learning Fee” that is $18/credit hour.

Let’s see how much money that will make them. If the average student takes about 12 hours per semester, and we have around 60k students (I lowballed all of these numbers btw) that means that @UCF stands to make 25.9 MILLION dollars this year off of this fee ALONE.

What exactly do you need almost 26 MILLION dollars for @UCF ? And please don’t say you’re planning on spending that much money on hand sanitizer. I will laugh at you.

You know what you could do for that much money? You could send 432 students to @UCF for 4 years full time. 432 people could get their degrees for free with that much money.

Gouging your students for more money during a pandemic that will undoubtedly cause an economic depression is absolutely revolting. If you agree that this is unacceptable please like and share this thread to show them that we will not accept this.

Oh hey another thing that @jordanelizas pointed out, Bright Futures doesn’t cover the fee! How messed up is that!
