my nurse mother wants to to tell you all this about covid-19, a quick thread!
my mother, a nurse, just came in and told me that the CDC has announced that we’ve passed the tipping point in the US, and there’s no containing the virus anymore. It’s going to burn its way through the country.
Because of this, it’s more important than ever to protect your own safety, and that means a couple of things according to my mom.
One: DON’T ATTEND SMALL GATHERINGS. I know it might seem like small gatherings would be safer, but the majority of new cases are coming from get togethers between 6-10 people when social distancing guidelines are broken. Even with social distancing, it’s safest to just stay home.
Two: THE FACT THAT IT’S ALLOWED DOESN’T MEAN ITS A GOOD IDEA. Despite the uptick of cases in the US, lots of businesses INCLUDING HOSPITALS are loosening restrictions and allowing customers and visitors. Unless absolutely necessary, don’t break quarantine.
Three: SIX FEET MEANS A REAL SIX FEET, AND DON’T REMOVE YOUR MASK. Masks, unless they are tan N95 mask, DO NOT protect the wearer. They protect others in the wearer’s vicinity. If someone refuses to wear a mask, they pose a danger to you and should be avoided.
Four: DON’T THINK YOU’RE IMMUNE OR WILL RECOVER. The longer this pandemic goes on, the clearer it becomes that it is not just immune compromised, elderly individuals who are at risk. Young and middle aged adults as well as children have been dying as well +
and even those who survive often have post-covid syndromes and sometimes scarring on the lungs, which is debilitating and never fully heals. Trust me, this isn’t a bug you want to catch.
Five: BELIEVE IT EXISTS. I know this seems incredibly base level, but because covid started out fairly contained in certain states and counties across America, a lot of people don’t know anyone that has died. In my friend group of seven, I am the only person +
who has lost someone I loved to this pandemic. For many, the lack of impact on themselves and their loved ones has made them turn a blind eye or down doubt in their minds about the deadly nature of the virus. Don’t be reckless. I promise, this is a real threat.
This is very different in tone to what I usually post, but my mom really urged me to tell everyone I can, and I thought it was really important to share. Stay safe everybody!!!!
