For McConnell, it's all cynical calculation — it's about installing right-wing judges and making the rich richer. For Trump, it's all about ego. He thinks a mask would make him look funny, and anyway wearing one would be a tacit admission that he was wrong 2/

Also, Trump is surrounded by sycophants who probably are telling him that the polls are fake news and he's winning in a landslide. So he probably doesn't share McConnell's terror at the likely (not certain!) electoral debacle 3/

But it says terrible things about the decline of America that the greatest republic in history is now heading for catastrophe because of the vanity of a mad king. Sad. 4/
