sorry but screaming at all these articles in awe of KPOP stans being socially engaged as if the most shocking thing about the news cycle is that youth (primarly young womxn & queer communities) can be socially active & also enjou KPOP (anyone else smell misogyny and xenophobia)

As if enjoying KPOP and being articulate in politics/social justice are somehow mutually exclusive...we’ve seen this applied before in various takes for what’s considered “women’s interests” etc but it doesn’t make the trope less tired or boring.
when you add race + orientalism + xenophobia in, it becomes all the more “interesting” - there were similar responses to anime for a long time until YT weebs appropriated the aesthetic - but it’s always interesting to me when people engage in debates like these
