Share your work on the Internet. Become Internet famous.

@david_perell & @patio11 discussed the reasons why you should become Internet famous.

Here is a thread of the key points 👇👇👇
There are infinite opportunities on the Internet. There are no gatekeepers on the Internet. If you want to be writer, publish. You do not need to go through traditional publishers.

This thread is an example. I wanted to publish a thread on this. I did.

Now you're reading it.
Write about things that will maintain relevance. Current events will only maintain relevance for 48 or so hours. Their relevancy quickly decays. Write about things that "don't have dates." Their relevance stays.

Paul Graham is a great example.

Find the things that you have unique insights on. @patrickmckenzie found that at the intersection of engineering and marketing. "I was a better engineer than most marketers and I was better marketer than most engineers.
Find that thing and write about it. If you don't know what that thing is, write until you find it. Pay attention to what people respond to.
There are infinite opportunities on the Internet. Not all of them are equally valuable. Find the opportunities that allow you to write about your interests and that the market values.
Your audience exists. They are somewhere on the Internet. Find the places your audience gathers and begin participating. Join the conversation.
Find people who have large audiences. Participate. Find signal-boosting creators. Connect with them. Here's a list of tips from Patrick McKenzie on how to connect with busy people:

People consume long form content. Some platforms are optimized for short form but people still consume long form. The people who consume your long form content are your core audience. Write for them.

Deliver them value.

Find other ways to engage the rest of your audience.
Cultivate intellectual curiosity.

Your input should lead to output. Have interesting conversations. Read good books and essays. Watch interesting videos. Take thorough notes. Create content from that.
Use email.

Build your own email list. Own it. These people want to hear from you. They have opted-in & are less likely to burn out. They want to hear from you and will voraciously consume your content.

You control this platform. Cadence. Content. Distribution.
"You radically underestimate how much you know that others don't and the instrumental benefits of you publishing it." - @patio11
Find trusted outsiders. Find people that you trust and respect. Get their feedback on early drafts of your work.

Get their feedback early. You don't want to spend 6 months working on something only to find out that your trusted insiders think you should scrap it.
Write deeply about the problems you understand. Write early and often.

You could spend 9 months creating a software and launch to no one or you can spend 9 months writing a newsletter, building an audience, and launch to them.
Writing has a much lower barrier to sellable work than software. You can have a written sellable product in a few weeks. This gets people in the habit of paying you and prepares them to pay you more.
Sharpen your scissors.

Do what you love and love what you do.

If you love scissors, become an expert. Dedicate yourself to your work. Find the parts you like and double down on them.

Be passionate about what you do.

Hone your craft.
Surround yourself with optimistic and ambitious people. You will become more optimistic and ambitious.
Create value and tell people about it. Accurately calibrate your own understanding of the value you bring.

Produce great value and tell people about it. Be productive about your own outcomes.
I couldn't possibly get everything. I highly encourage you to watch the video. It's incredibly valuable content.
