Would the #Outlander characters wear a mask? Claire would definitely wear a mask because A) she's a doctor, and B) she's not stupid. (Thread.) #WearAMask #StaySafe https://twitter.com/lindsaytheis/status/1277053792337485824
Jamie: He's heard enough about gerrrrrms and viruses over the years to know that he should always - always! - trust his wife when it comes to medical concerns. Plus, he knows that as the chief on the Ridge, he needs to set a good example for his tenants.
Brianna: Growing up with a mom who taught her classmates sex ed and always talked about being healthy and safe has made this girl trust her mom when it comes to medical advice. She would also fashion a brand new type of mask for everyone on the Ridge.
Roger: He'd whine about it being uncomfortable to wear, and after a talking to from Claire, he'd claim that it was too much to handle. He ends up wearing one that does not cover his nose, and he jumps whenever Claire tells him to wear it properly.
Marsali: She trusts Claire implicitly. Bring on the mask! She's already given birth to three kids. Wearing a mask is a walk in the park to her.
Frank: He rolls his eyes at Claire's insistence that he needs to wear one, but he wears one when he leaves the house to keep the peace. He takes it off when he's out of sight, though, and since the university is closed due to the pandemic, he's usually at Sandy's flat anyway.
Laoghaire: Any advice from Claire is obviously witchcraft. That wh*re will not tell her what to do! Laoghaire ends the conversation by spitting after Claire to make her point.
Ned Gowan: He doesn't have a choice due to his asthma. He stays at home during quarantine and enjoys a deep dive into the genealogy of the MacKenzie clan while writing the history of Jacob and his children.
Geillis: While the virus may be real, she believes there might be a conspiracy re: the masks, and they're not effective after all. If she does get sick, she'll drag a person to the standing stones, kill him, and travel to the future to get a cure there.
Fergus and Young Ian: They may be dubious at first, but they also trust Claire, so they'll be happy to wear a mask. Fergus will wear one with a fleur-de-lis pattern, while Young Ian will make one out of animal skin, realise it's way too hot, and ask his cousin to help him out.
Dougal: The government and a silly woman will NOT tell him what to do! He is free to do whatever he wants! He will never wear a mask. EVER!
Lord John: What a singular idea! A mask? Well, Claire did save his life when he caught the measles, so he will do it, and his valet, Tom Byrd, will make sure that his mask is always clean and ironed to perfection.
Colum: He rarely leaves Castle Leoch in any case, but when he does, he tries to remember to wear one. He tends to wear it hanging from one ear, though, because when he's in public, he's usually speaking loudly to large crowds.
Sandringham: He's far too vain to even consider wearing a mask. Besides, it would ruin his makeup and his wig.
Angus and Rupert: Wear a mask? With this beard? Are you daft, woman? It sounds like a load of nonsense, anyway. Besides, we were just down at the pub, and we heard that the English are behind the virus. #RedCoatFlu
Jenny: A mask? In the Highlands? She might have to sew or knit one herself, but she can do it. But she's just supposed to believe Claire? Then again, Jamie did tell her to trust Claire, and she was right about the potatoes. Mask it is! "Ian, did ye hear that? Wear yer mask, man!"
Master Raymond: Claire begs him to tell her what can cure the disease seeing that he's already been to the future and knows how the pandemic ends. He lets her down gently, however. "Madonna, I cannot change the history, but you will do your best and protect your family."
Jocasta: She firmly believes it's her right to decide to wear a mask or not. The patriarchy has screwed her over, so she won't budge until C explains the science of wearing masks. She doesn't necessarily believe it, but maybe Bree will take over River Run if she placates her mom.
Murtagh: He knows that Claire knows more than he does, so while he may not think it's comfortable to wear one while running around the North Carolina backcountry, he also knows better than to question her judgement. And he can keep his fellow Regulators safe and healthy. Win-win!
Bonnie Prince Charlie: Would a Prince with a god-given right to the throne be affected by a mere virus? Of course not! He'll shake as many hands and talk to as many loyal subjects as he can. "Mark me!"
(And if he does get sick, he'll just chug a bottle of Lysol.)
Black Jack: As if he cares if anyone around him gets sick! They are all inferior to him, anyway. In fact, he might try to become a COVID superspreader just for the heck of it since he already knows when he's going to die.
