Sometimes responding in the moment isn’t a good idea. At times we may need to take a step back, pause, reflect, and come back to certain discussions when we’re more relaxed. Time can help us gain the clarity to have constructive discussions, instead of reacting on impulse.
If you’re someone who sees the benefit in marinating on discussions instead of being reactive; communicate this to prevent people from thinking you’re ghosting or invalidating their feelings. E.g. “I hear you but I’d appreciate some time to think about this before I respond”.
Some people like addressing things in the moment. Others prefer to think about the situation in detail first. Nobody is wrong or right about their approach all of the time. Everyone is different and it’s important for us to recognise this and try to meet loved ones halfway.
