My rational views on the club at the moment, a thread. #CPFC
Okay so before I start, I want to make it clear that I’m still Roy IN. Why? Well after minimal backing from the board (we’ll get to them) he’s still managed to keep us up for the third season in a row, comfortably as well. After our transfer window I wouldn’t have dreamed that.
Having said that, he has his flaws. His in game management for example is infuriating. The lack of substitutions and chances for youth (notably Pierrick) is very frustrating. This is by far his biggest flaw, having said that, I would keep him as I believe he wouldn’t take us down
But now we have another issue; the squad. A lot of players in there (Townsend & Milivojevic especially) just haven’t been at the races for us at all this season. Factor in that the likes of Zaha, Sakho & Meyer are also likely to leave, it leaves the squad in an awkward place.
Coincidentally, almost half our first team players are out of contract next summer, as is Roy himself. So I’d like to think this is the summer we’ll see some real big spending to sort this issue out. However...
Here in lies the biggest issue; the board. Not necessarily Parish as I do believe he knows what he’s doing, he just doesn’t have the finances to do so himself. If there was a major shake up to the board I’d like him to stay just as he knows what it means to be Palace.
But then we get to the parasites; Harris & Blitzer. These bastards have a combined net worth of $6 billion and we haven’t seen any real investment in Roy’s entire stay (Issa Diop alone costs more than all signings under Roy combined) and they own 82% of the club. Shocking.
So where do we go from here? My personal route would be to keep Roy for next season as he won’t take us down, keep a lot of the players but buy a fair few (even if they’re on frees it’s fine) to lower the squads average age and then 21/22 hire a new manager and let him rebuild...
...from the ground up, lowering the squad age as he does so, obviously keep some players (the likes of Tomkins, Ayew, Guaita if possible and maybe even McArthur if he’s still going) as experienced figures and blend them with youthful players bought in by the new boss.
