On instagram, I did a whole analytical post on foreshadowing, and how Jughead saying “I’m sorry, in what future are we not together?“ related to Barchie being endgame in the end. Here’s a short thread on foreshadowing ☟︎
As Jughead stated in 4x17, “in what future are we not together” this is an example of Prominent foreshadowing, also referred to as the “Prophecies”. As Jughead made this statement, it kind of jinxed the situation of him and Betty’s future together as a couple.
As we all know, the next scene with Betty, is her and Archie together in his garage. A lot of moments happen, such as her and Archie reminiscing on their childhood as it was the last time they were happy, them talking about Archie’s old songs, their flashbacks, and the kiss.
This happens after Betty’s argument with Jughead, and after Archie’s argument with Veronica. Isn’t it interesting how they always find their way back to each other whenever they’re in arguments with their significant others?
Anyways, right before they have their passionate kiss, they have flashbacks of each specific moment from their past that they were starting to realize they had feelings for each other even though it was unknown to the other. This is known as flashback foreshadowing.
As some people state that Barchie came out of nowhere especially the kiss in S4, their feelings for each other were right in front of us the whole time, you just had to pay attention to them. KJ even talks about how the writers used subtle moments for us to catch on to barchie.
With the flashbacks, parallels, & foreshadowing, Barchie has been thought of and planned out since the beginning of the show and will probably be endgame with all the subtle hints since the beginning. If you rewatch each Barchie scene in every season, you’ll realize what I mean.
Well, that’s pretty much the end of my thread. If you want more, check out my recent post on Instagram @barchieanalyses :)
