When our bosses at tartine were trying to talk us out of unionizing, they said they wanted to lay out a clear promotion track, giving any worker the opportunity to advance from dishwasher all the way up to CEO (lol). Aside from being bullshit, 2 reasons why that sucks:
1) it undervalues dishwashers, implies that that& #39;s a position you shouldn& #39;t want, when dishwashers are absolutely essential 2) by making a promotion every worker& #39;s goal, we& #39;re pitted in competition against eachother, whereas w/ a union, advocating for myself is advocating for all
Plus tartine was just bought by a private equity firm, so good luck becoming CEO (hadn& #39;t been bought yet at the time, but still)
And for anyone who& #39;s curious about the status of @TartineUnion , the NLRB hearing regarding the remaining challenge ballots in our election began today... will know the outcome in 60-90 days
*(advocating for myself = advocating for all) Rather, i can advocate for the value of the position i hold, as opposed to advocating for just me as an individual
