The invincibility of the 90s Bulls is so mythical. People act like they weren't vulnerable. A breakdown...
'92: Need 7 to get past NYK. Blown out by Cleveland at home in ECF (need 6). Need double digit 4th qtr comeback to clinch title vs POR (need 6).
'93: Had to climb out of 0-2 hole vs NYK. Scored same amount of points in Finals vs PHX, needing clutch Paxson 3 to win title. Need 6 games in Finals against Ceballos-less Suns.
'96: Need 6 games vs Sonics. Jordan shoots 42% in Finals.
'97: 4 out of 6 games in Finals decided by 5 points or fewer. Need clutch Kerr shot to win game 6.
'98: Team is ranked 19th in eFG% and 24th in free throw rate. Need 7 to win ECF, winning g7 by just 5 points. Need 6 to win finals, winning g6 by 1 point.
The point? The Bulls were GREAT, but I'm skeptical that they were in a separate tier to the rest of the league. They beat a lot of teams who were equal to them and were not a monopoly. Call it whatever you want: clutch, lucky...bottom line is they were great, but vulnerable.
