A short thread on choice.

If my child wanted to continue an option subject because they felt confident to continue,I would want them to do that.
If my child’s poor mental health could be improved by removing a subject of study, I would want them to do that.

I would want the matter of freedom for my child- not because I’m better informed than the school on education, or future decisions, or open doors...
- if I put my teacher hat to one side, and sit as a parent, these wouldn’t be the first things on my mind. Should they be?

There’s no recovery or compensation for being the COVID generation. There will always be a section of time lost that can’t be regained, which must feel..
Frustrating and infuriating and wrapped up in what can only be comparable to grief for the lack of reconciliation. Choice is the only way in which I would be able to regain a sense of control, to be able to help my child govern a way forward from such feelings.
These choices, to me, are a matter of people and not politics. And if schools are making the choice of freedom motivated by politics and not people- well, either motivation won’t sit easily.

At times such as these, choice may be the best antidote we can offer. #fin
