(1/11) Why I like Hubert, a thread: (this is condensed from a 1600 word blog post, so...) Spoilers for CF and some scattered ones for other routes too.
(2/11) I love Hubert because his passion for Edelgard’s cause is genuine and not based on reciprocated romantic feelings. He states that he has awe and empathy and trust for her; a man who sees a woman for her dreams, ambitions, and ideals, rather than her ‘sexual value’. 🖤
(3/11) He often struggles to cope with his own feelings. He is often standoffish and keeps people at a safe distance. He is difficult to support emotionally, and Edelgard find this side of him very frustrating. She feels like he doesn’t put enough trust in her as a human being.
(4/11) He struggles to express positive feelings about people who aren’t Edelgard, and we see this in his support with Ferdinand. While he’s learned to respect Ferdinand for his good points by the A support, he finds it more natural to scoff at him.
(5/11) Hanneman confronts him with the idea that his father had his reasons for what he did. Hubert shuts him down. Hubert does not want to be confronted with the idea that he was wrong to kill his father, which would ruin his facade of not caring about emotional attachments.
(6/11) He dislikes the goddess because she didn’t ‘properly govern this world’. ( @idealistside had a great thread about this). He has contempt for people who don’t perform their responsibilities(his supports with BE boys, Rhea, etc). Edie and he feed off each other on this front.
(7/11) Dorothea ribs him for thinking he’s in an opera. They don’t have much romantic chemistry but they have a good vibe with each other. She wants to secure herself a happy future; he wants to help see Edelgard’s dreams. They ‘get’ each other.
(8/11) I liked his letter about the slitherers and their intentions in VW/SS. It shows that Hubert does care about the world and does want to do the right thing, but also shows his general distrust and contempt for people who aren’t part of his side. He sounds so pissed.
(9/11) He is very theatrical and always phrases things with a dramatic flair. I really like his post-TS design and his voice acting. I think he transitions from awkward goth kid to full grand vizier quite naturally, and he seems to be much more comfortable post-timeskip.
(10/11) The only support where we see him really put his guard down is in the A+ with Ferdinand, where he actually opens up and seems to be enjoying himself despite his apprehension. That’s why I really like the ship.🖤🧡 Edie/Doro and him have good chemistry, but less romantic.
(11/11) He isn't the nicest person, but he has clear ethical boundaries. He does desire to be loved despite his prickliness. And he cares very deeply for Edelgard and eventually other people that he lets in. Anyway, that was a lot. And I deleted so much!
