Happiest countries are wealthiest, most homogenous, most white, have among the largest welfare states, and are most accepting of homosexuality.

Happy societies are radical-centrist societies that make a socialist state citizens are happy about due to a homogeneous population. https://twitter.com/Yankshanker/status/1277678274664161280
To build a large entitlement state you need a large amount of social trust, and a large amount of cultural cohesion as to come up with solutions that are accepted by consensus.

Diversity and Cosmopolitanism prevent these conditions from being met.
You can see this in America when it comes to increasing "equity" of black communities. It's never framed - by either side - as a case of middle class helping poor but rather about transferring money from white people to black people, which leads to a different public discussion.
Social cohesion CAN be achieved among different ethnicities, but takes decades, if not centuries to form. How long it takes depends on the degree to which the cultures in question differ.
Multiculturalism threatens the social cohesion that underpins support for expansive social policies. Take Switzerland: We see different ethnicities can come together to create a cohesive social entity with shared identity, but this can't work in a setting of multiculturalism.
Once the narrative shifts from "helping fellow members of this society" to "giving money from us to them", you have a problem on your hands. This is part of the reason (if not the very core) that in the US, ghettos still exist and little to no action is taken to remedy this.
The base requirement of expansive social policies is that you have a shared community to begin with.

Such a thing will not be possible in an environment where a shared cultural identity is actively discouraged.
