From a facebook group I am a part of comes these two comments on taking down Lincoln statues at UW.

There is just a terrible, terrible brainworm in here.
It isn't even the words themselves so much as the assumptions and ideals that lay behind them --
the sort of assumptions that would cause someone to think that the issue at hand is "thinking and learning" and the "impulse" to revolt against "elders" on the one hand with "thinking politely" and "venerating idols" on the other hand.
Put aside that of the two options offered, the second is actually by far the more thoughtful. That this is the accepted framing for how we think about generational change in the first place - how brain addled we are.
